It is somewhat mesmerising watching the Sony Xperia Z being doused in ink in super slow motion. This is what we have in the promo video below from Sony Mobile France. There are two other videos in this series of ‘Xperimentations’ promotional videos highlighting the Xperia Z’s water and dust resistance. Check all three out below. [read more…]

Sony Xperia fans in Ireland will be glad to hear that pre-orders are now live at O2. The phone is available on contract (with upfront costs starting at €189) and prepay from €579. O2 Ireland says the handset will launch on 28 February and it is also running the Sony MDR-1 headphone promotion as seen in the UK. Further details can be found here. The handset will also launch on 1 March with Three Ireland, although pre-orders with them are yet to start.
Update: Meteor Ireland will also be stocking the handset, you can register your interest here. The same applies to Vodafone Ireland. [Thanks @billbond4!]
Thanks @GarDeady!
Back in early November, Sony Mobile France revealed that it would be launching the Xperia V (LT25i) in January 2013 for €529. Well, as you might have noticed, January has come and gone and there’s still no sign of the handset.
Sony Mobile France recently confirmed that the handset is still planned to launch but the date has slipped to March. It appears that the Xperia V will be on sale exclusively through Sony Mobile’s official webstore, suggesting a limited launch. This is hardly surprising considering that the Xperia Z (C6603) will launch in France towards the end of February. [read more…]
It was a matter of time before the system dump of the Sony Xperia Z was leaked, especially as there are many devices in people’s hands now. The version leaked is for the western LTE version of the handset (C6603) rather than the NTT DoCoMo version (SO-02E). It comes from a supposed retail device running 10.1.A.1.350 firmware (Android 4.1.2). Further details can be found here. Ringtones, notifications, alarm tones and wallpapers from the device have also leaked, which you can find here.
One of the consistent (and only) criticisms we hear of the Sony Xperia Z is that the display’s viewing angles don’t compare to some of the competition. Personally, we’ve never understood this point, it is not as if people need to share viewing on a smartphone much like one would with a television, monitor or tablet.
Well if viewing angles do matter to you, then check out the comparison pictures and videos below. They have been compiled from various sources and show the display of the Sony Xperia Z against a number of other flagships including the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X along with other Sony Xperia phones such as the Xperia TX and Xperia S. Do you see anything below that concerns you? Or are certain media sites just trying too hard to look for negatives on the Xperia Z? Let us know your opinion below. [read more…]
The Sony Xperia Z has popped up on the company’s PC Companion and Sony Update Service (SUS) software, highlighting that the launch is getting closer. Four variants of the Sony Xperia Z are listed – the LTE global version (C6603), the HSPA+ global version (C6602), the Japanese version (SO-02E) and lastly the ‘Xperia Z’, which gives no clues on how it differs from the others. There is no Xperia ZL listed either, so its launch is likely to fall after the Xperia Z. [read more…]
Want to see the beautiful city of Paris captured by the Sony Xperia Z at night? Well check out the video below. It shows how well it fares against some of the competition, including the Galaxy Note 2 and Nexus 4. The video also switches audio between the phones so you can see how each compares. It’s best to view this one in full screen in 720p or 1080p so you can really tell the difference between them. [read more…]
Sony Mobile Japan has released a number of promotional videos for the Xperia Z (SO-02E) that recently launched through NTT DoCoMo. The first two videos below do a particularly good job of showing off the handsets features, even if you don’t understand the text on screen. They cover the camera (including HDR and burst mode), NFC sharing, screen mirroring, water resistance and display. Check out the videos below. [read more…]
The two new NFC-enabled Sony headsets announced at CES in early January now have a price tag in the UK. The Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH20 will probably be of interest to most of you as it’s an in-ear phone with a clip-on headset. It has a 110mAh battery capable of six hours of talk time and weighs just 12.3 grams. The SBH20 will set you back £35.90 according to the official Sony Mobile UK site and comes in five colours (black, orange, pink turquoise and white).
The over-the-ear Wireless Headset DR-BTN200M is a lot more expensive, as you might expect, priced at £79.00. This headset can answer calls by pressing a button on the right headphone. It also has controls on the headphone to navigate your music collection. The DR-BTN200M has a 145mAh battery capable of 40 hours stream time and is available in black and white colours. No launch date is set right now as both headsets are tagged ‘Coming Soon’, although expect them to release around the same time as the Xperia Z.
Japanese consumers have been lucky enough to get hands-on with the Sony Xperia Z (SO-02E) over the weekend. A number of unboxing videos and pictures have popped up that you can check out enviously below. For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait just under three weeks before the handset is released in the west. It cannot come soon enough. [read more…]
The Sony Charging Dock DK26 for the Xperia Z might be an essential accessory for some. It means you will be able to charge the handset without worrying about port flaps. The dock does this by charging the Xperia Z via two exposed metal pins on the side of the handset.
The dock will be included in the Xperia Z package in some territories, but for those not lucky to have one bundled in (the UK being an example) then you may want to know how much it will set you back. The official Sony Mobile store has listed the Charging Dock DK26 for £24.90. It is available in all three colours of the handset (black, purple and white), but you can’t actually order it right now – the listing says it is “Coming Soon”. It is worth noting that no power adaptor is included in this price, so you’ll have to use the micro USB charger that you get with the phone. [read more…]
